Congratulations to the Winners of the Great Millinocket History Game

Game over, Millinocket! A winner has been declared!

The Millinocket Historical Society is proud to announce the Great Millinocket History Game winners. A first-place trophy went to Diana Furukawa, second to Nadine McGibbon, and third to Norma Wentworth. The game lasted from September 5th to October 10th, when the third-place winner was declared. First place received a check for $200 and each of the first, second, and third place prizes included Millinocket-themed gifts and gift certificates generously donated by local merchants.  The game will be ongoing for those who wish to continue, and players are encouraged to keep playing.

The historical society has been busy with participants following clues, solving puzzles, and discovering the history of Millinocket. Trudy Wyman, curator, said, “The best part has been the number of people who said it was fun and they loved learning so much about Millinocket! That was our goal.”

The historical society is dedicated to preserving our town’s history and sharing it in fun and educational ways.  The Katahdin Federal Credit Union sponsored the event, and 26 businesses posted clues for the participants to discover as part of the game.  Gifts and prizes totaling over $700 were donated by local businesses, including Moose Print Gallery, Fire and Ash, Dunkin Donuts, Katahdin General, Hair Razor, Yum Bakery, Millinocket Floral, and Vicky Baron.

The Millinocket Historical Society, in its 45th year, is expanding to the second floor of the museum on Central Street, adding 8 rooms of exhibits. The event is a fundraiser to help with the upcoming expansion.  "It was fun getting to know everyone and we appreciate how generous everyone was. It is a win for the Millinocket community, bringing people from more than 30 businesses and organizations together to celebrate Millinocket's history!” said Barbara Beaulieu, president of the Historical Society.

Millinocket residents or former residents interested in volunteering or donating to the museum expansion are encouraged to drop by during business hours or contact the museum.
